At BioMAX, a new sample environment, the HClab (ARINAX, France), has been set into operation. This facility allows to stabilise a macromolecular crystal at room temperature within the interaction volume of the x-ray diffraction experiment. Furthermore it is possible to change the hydration state of this crystal in a controlled fashion, i.e. to improve the diffraction properties or to gently cryo-cool the crystal without any surrounding mother liquor. This opens a wide range of future experimental possibilities for the BioMAX users.
