In the context of the MAX IV process of developing a science-driven Strategy and Roadmap to guide our development during the period of 2023–2030, we are organizing DearasdStrategy workshops to solicit community input to finalize the full strategy in the spring of 2022.
We warmly invite you to the series of virtual half-day workshops combined under the “Energy Technologies and Materials” umbrella. The workshops will take place in September and October, and we invite everyone who is interested in contributing to corresponding section of the strategy document to participate in the workshops.
The meeting aims to collect contributions from various stakeholders, for example, representatives of Swedish universities, research institutions, international research communities, industry, as well as from MAX IV, regarding the “Energy Technologies and Materials” section of the strategy document. All contributions will be collected in an evolving attachment to the Strategy document, which will serve as basis for the next version of “Energy Technologies and Materials” section. In addition, we hope to select contributions to the forward-looking section with the same name on the 33rdMAX IV user meeting that will take place during 25-27 October 2021.
As part of this workshop, we strongly encourage members of the user community to share their input on this topic. This may be achieved by highlighting the grand challenges of importance during the next decade and scientific strategies or via the proposal of a new beamline or end station/sample delivery systems.
If you have any questions regarding the strategy process, Energy section of the strategy document or workshops, please contact
Workshop Bioenergy Technologies
Organisers: Nils Skoglund (UmU)
WHEN: October 21, 2021 13:00 – 16:00
WHERE: Click here to join the meeting
Program:
13:00 – 13:15 Introduction to Max IV and X-rays in Bioenergy (Nils Skoglund)
13:15 – 13:30 Strategy and Roadmap process (Andrey or someone else from Max IV explaining the process)
13:30 – 13:40 Present status (Nils or Andrey with the early draft – highlighting that Bioenergy were lacking; no users or just afraid to use synchrotrons?)
13:40 – 14:00 Break
14:00 – 15:00 Presentations (15 minutes presentations with 5 minutes for questions, brief break after)
Jenny Rissler from RISE: X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements on heavy metals in ash particles at BALDE
Mikael Thyrel from Swedish University of Agriculture: Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy on solid fuel particles
Anna Strandberg from Umeå University: X-ray microtomography on ash particles to assess their potential for nutrient recovery
15:00 – 15:45 General discussion – suggestions below
- How (and how much) are you using x-rays in your research?
- How would you expect MAX IV to contribute to your research within next 1-3 (current capabilities, new sample environments, new access modes, …) and 3-10 yrs (new instruments, new methods, new beamlines)
- Key scientific problems/questions in the area that will be relevant next 3-10 yrs
- Scientific/technical goals that could be put for the next 3-0 yrs
15:45 – 16:00 Summary of key points from Bioenergy Technologies to the Strategy and Roadmap documents
