Information for pregnant and breastfeeding women
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your employer must conduct a risk assessment. Potential risks to be aware of can be identified by asking yourself if the work contains any of the following:
- Exposure to noise
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields, e.g. from ultra-violet light sources or lasers
- Exposure to ionizing radiation
- Unpleasantly low or high temperatures
- Heavy lifting, shocks, vibrations or major physical strain of any other kind
- Long periods of walking or standing
- Uncomfortable working positions (twisting/stretching/bending)
- Insufficient opportunity for breaks and rest
- A risk of contagion from rubella or toxoplasmosis
- Exposure to CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction) classified chemicals, e.g. lead, carbon monoxide or mercury compounds
- Exposure to mercury compounds
- Exposure to allergens or substances that are toxic when absorbed by the skin, e.g. some organic substances
- Risk of strong anxiety or exhaustion
- High level of stress
- Solitary work
- Risk of threats, violence or victimisation
- Night work
- Irregular working hours
Pregnant or nursing women are advised not to
- Handle radioactive substances without consulting radiation safety.
- Carry out activities involving the following hazardous substances properties: toxic, harmful, carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic, toxic to reproduction (or in any other way chronically harmful to humans)
